TSAVO'S Canine Rehabilitation Center
Maja Wichtowski, RVT, CCRP (619) 846-9531

Rehabilitation is concerned with restoration of function and prevention of disability.
Don't just treat the pain, heal the condition!

The Inspiration:
Tsavo was diagnosed with cancer at the age of six. According to the specialists, my options were limited to chemo and radiation. We were hesitant about putting him through that type of treatment, and started intensive research to find an alternative way to help him. Through the use of acupuncture, proper nutrition and appropriate supplements, we were able to put his cancer in remission. Later in life he developed other conditions, typical of most older dogs, including hip DJD, IVDD, and OA. Again we searched for ways to help him, and began on the road to learning valuable rehab therapy techniques to decrease his pain and improve his strength and mobility. Tsavo was still able to run and play on the beach 2 days before we had to put him to sleep due to a possible brain tumor which was complicated by seizures. He was 14 years old. Due to our intensive efforts, Tsavo lived a full, happy, healthy, and pain-free life. Read more.

Who is the Owner? Maja's Path:
I have been dedicated to finding a way to provide that same care to other dogs. As a registered veterinary technician, I have over 18 years of extensive experience in all western veterinary modalities - oncology, orthopedics, internal medicine, dentistry, emergency/critical care, general practice, and canine rehabilitation. After attending the Canine Rehabilitation Institute in Florida, I spent 2 years gaining valuable experience in the rehabilitation field, and preparing to open my own rehabilitation practice. "Tsavo's Canine Rehabilitation Center" finally opened in March 2006, and has successfully treated over 350 patients.

Eastern Medicine Meets Western Medicine:
The successful future of veterinary medicine and patient care requires a partnership of both eastern and western medicine. Now, more than ever, pet owners are becoming more aware and investigating, through their own research, the benefits of eastern veterinary medicine.

What is Canine Rehabilitation?
Canine Rehabilitation can assist in treating orthopedic injuries, neurological conditions, and chronic conditions brought about by normal aging. These conditions can result in weakness, pain, decreased range of motion, loss of coordination, decreased endurance and difficulty with normal daily activities. Athletes, non-athletes, working dogs and geriatrics can all benefit from veterinary rehabilitation. Read more.
